On Oct. 19th, EdSource and Partners for Each and Every Child hosted a webinar featuring leading educators and experts who examined strategies for closing the achievement gap in the wake of California's Smarter Counterbalanced examination scores, which were released last month.

Moderated by EdSource Executive Manager Louis Freedberg, the panel consisted of:

  • Carl Cohn, executive director, California Collaborative for Educational Excellence, and former superintendent, Long Beach Unified and San Diego Unified

  • Linda Darling-Hammond, Stanford University professor emeritus and CEO, Learning Policy Institute

  • Christopher Edley, UC Berkeley School of police force professor, and former co-chair, National Equity and Excellence Commission

  • Sean Reardon, professor of poverty and inequality in education, Stanford Center for Education Policy Assay

  • Socorro Shiels, superintendent, Santa Rosa City Schools

  • Ryan Smith, executive director, Pedagogy Trust-West
